I bought my Univega Specialissima in 1982 for about $500 (it was either $475 or $550; I forget).

In inflation-adjusted dollars that would be about $1,100 today.

My hazy memory is that Miyatas and Univegas were similar in price for similar bikes.

As I recall at that time I couldn't get another full-fledged touring bike unless I bought a Bob Jackson frame or a Dawes, both of which would have cost more.
