I'd say do what you can to bring it inside. I have a winter beater bike, and happen to live in sunny Los Angeles, but I do try to minimize the amount of time my bike sits for several reasons. First, she's my baby and the idea of anything happening to her just hurts me, and two its going to last longer with fewer problems.
As was said, water and sun can damage a bike pretty quickly. Take pride in your ride!
I know I do. I get yelled at by sercurity and shopkeepers all the time for bringing my bike inside.
