I've ridden several 29ers and just didn't like them. I rode a Karate Monkey and several of GF's 29ers.

I think they'll always be a bit of a niche. I think if you tend to have smooth flowing trails they work well. Tight technical trails with a lot of switchbacks are not good for 29ers.
