For my first foray into frame building/modifying, I'd like to convert the rear dropouts on an old cro-moly frame to track ends. I've been practicing my brazing technique and have already performed a satisfactory repair on a cracked seatstay-seatcluster joint, so I think I'm capable of doing this conversion. I'm thinking I'll either buy the Henry James Conversion dropouts for $20 a pair, or buy some 3/16" cro-moly plate and make them myself. Either way my question is this: Once the new dropouts are brazed to the frame, they are essentially annealed (if I make my own dropouts then I'll be starting with annealed material anyway). So do the dropouts require any hardening/heat treatment afterward? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just don't want to make anything unsafe. Thanks.
