European dream
Hi, originally from Holland but living in South Africa for the past 37 years it has always been a dream of me and my wife to have an extended (6 to 8 months) holiday in Western Europe. We have been hiking/mountaineering most of our lives and decided that the best way to celebrate my 60th birthday in 2010 is to make this dream come true. Due to the dismal value of our currency it will have to be a pretty minimalist venture but that adds to the adventure. We bought our bikes two weeks ago and are training hard to make the legs remember the many kilometers riding to school all those years ago.
We would like to limit our gear to one backpack each to be carried on a rack at the rear. Any tips, destinations, camping etc. most welcome. I must say this forum has fantastic information, it will take a while to take it all in.
