Using Tufo tape while racing 'cross is a whole different animal - tape doesn't like water one bit. I would never use Tufo tape for cyclocross, heard too many horror stories.

It also depends on the tubular's base tape - for example, Vittoria base tape is impregnated with glue, which doesn't mix well with Tufo tape. Tufo only recommends using their tape on their tires because the base tape is untreated. I've had good results using Tufo tape with Conti tires, though.
