well i have only taken apart my old 1999 rock shox Judy for hte fun of it. I learned a lot frm that actually. I dont know what fork you have but to get acess to the springs all i had to do was get a 24mm (i think its that, regardless i used an adjustable wrench) wrench and unscrew the top caps on both legs. you remove it and there are the springs. big yellow things. you can have them out in minutes. I always feel uneasy about taking apart my suspension stuff now though because im always afraid of not putting enough or putting too much oil.
