I've had a few but I've always managed to get home. One that sticks out was two years ago on a solo ride. Everything was going fine, no physical problems, bike was working great, had lots of food and water, 120k into a 140k ride. Just 20k to go no thoughts in my mind except how good of a ride I've had, then squishy back wheel, no problem I have spares and frame pump. Get off bike start changing flat and then the mosquitos found me. Oh my God!! I grew up in mosquito and blackfly country in Ontario but I have never has so many bites in my life. It was like I was the only warm blooded creature for 1000k radious, then I notice I'm right beside a swamp. Man I should have just rode the rim a little it was awfull.
Oh and to the OP come on man no leg lifting duriing the season, that's what big ring and hills are for
