Wisconsin's 400 bike trail

Has anyone here ridden this trail? I'm looking at some of the pics on their website and it looks like a very nice trail system. I do have a question or two however if anyone has experience with the trail.

Is it a crushed limestone path all the way from Reedsburg and Elroy? From what I can see it looks like is but was just wondering if there were any asphalt stretches along the way.

Also, I was looking at a website for the Elroy portion, and it mentioned something about needing to buy a trail pass? Is that accurate? Does one really need to pay to ride the path?? I guess I'm used to trails here in the Chicago area being free to ride them.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
