I have mine wrapped all the way from the brake levers around with bar tape. I've seen people add grips. I've even seen the ergonomic type grips used on trekking bars. They cut off the outside end and put them on that way. They also sell this foam padding/grip material for trekking bars but I think it's hard to find. eBay has it sometimes.
