Here's my trekking bar setup. I used cork grips and cork tape, shimano barend shifters on Paul's Thumbies. I find I ride most of the time on the grips, but will slide my hands over to only half on the grips/half on the tape sometimes. Uphill I tend to position my hands on the outside curves. I find the cork tape has a nice cushion.
