That was in 1993. The road was mint, new aspahlt, nice, banked switchback turns...absolutely perfect road and minimal traffic. No idea what its like now.

The entire trip, from Mexico City to Guatemala City, roads were good, drivers polite, people very nice and hospitable in all the pueblas along the way. The only problems with congestion, pollution, drivers, bribes, was Mexico City. We actually finished the trip in Panachel, Guatemala, on the shores of Lake Atitlan, because we were warned the roads sucked between there and Guatemala City.
