Yes! I saw two sets of them, I should have stopped to get photos but was "in a groove" going uphill both times.

You're right about this ride - it should be more popular than it is; I think the distance (5 hour drive from Seattle) doesn't help. I really think it's worth the effort to get there. Furthermore, it's a hard route to do on your own due to lack of services, so doing it on an organized basis is a good way to do it.
