I got some £10 shimano SPDs in jejames last year. They work fine, have adjustable tension and weigh 360g for the pair - less than most flat pedals. You'll probably struggle to find them quite that cheap, but you certainly don't need to spend £70 on some pedals (unless you're a weight weenie).
