Trek FX vs Spec Sirrus vs Jamis Coda

Due to being overweight and having back issues, I am looking for a bike that let’s me sit more upright. Most of my riding will be with the wife and kid on paved paths, etc. They are very conservative riders. Possibility of doing a charity ride such as ms150, but not definite. The Specialized Sequoia almost worked. I think that I am a tweener in that if a bike feels good for my legs, the top tube is too long and if a bike feels good in terms of reach, I feel cramped in the legs. So, I am looking to transition from a road type bike to a flat bar or hybrid type of bike.

Which make/model of bike between the Trek FX and Specialized Sirrus and Jamis Coda allows one to sit more upright? Any other flat bar type of bike to consider?

I may just have to settle for a hybrid type bike if one of those does not allow me to sit upright enough. I want something with smoother rolling tires versus a mtn bike type of tire.
