What's wrong with the camp shovel idea? I'd say your chances of getting someone else to solve your problem are pretty low, so why not just solve it yourself, if it really needs to be solved?
What's wrong with it is that this isn't a bike path through the woods, it's a bike lane on a suburban street. The "side of the path" is somebody's yard. The only way for me to take care of it would be to toss it in my pannier and ride to the nearest dumpster -- not gonna happen.
