If you are using clipless pedals the angle may be the demon that haunts you. If it is not 'correct'....
You need to have some degree of rotation IMHO. I used to use SpeedPlay Frogs
I still have them but have retired them and ride with Teva sandals and old Suntour XC Comp pedals. Works for me but we are all different.
