First ghost bike... of the year.

A cyclist was killed here on Tuesday night when he was hit from behind by an automobile and then hit several more times by passing cars.

The official story is that the man was riding at 11 pm on what is a busy freeway where the posted speed is 50-60 mph and was attempting a lane change.

He had no reflective gear or lights and the fact he was not wearing a helmet seems moot considering the severity of the impact.

I think the lesson here is that when one rides at night there is no such thing as too much lighting or too many reflectors and perhaps this would not have happened if the rider had been better equipped.

Regardless of the circumstances... a ghost bike has been placed at the site of the accident.

By this time last year we had placed three ghost bikes... in 2 of the three cases the riders had not followed the traffic rules and in the other a commuter was run down on his way to work in broad daylight by an inattentive and mildly inebriated and overtired driver.

Please ride safe... I hate white bikes.
