You don't need to get that silly. Tap it out the next larger SAE and use an SAE allen head cap screw or go the next metric size up (i.e. - 5mm to 6mm, 6mm to 8mm).
ok, before i head to the silly world or bad repair or new ends...i'll try this...so you are saying just grind in a larger hex bolt/screw? the bar is aluminum so i guess a steel screw would be the best bet? i think it will work.
