I know therer's a lot of people whose goal is to get their century times down to sub-6 or sub-5 (for a few) but that's one of the specific points that I'm bringing up at my meeting with the Seattle Tour de Cure organizers today: Their cutoffs were too short for the century. It's a charity ride; not everyone is there to tear out a 6h 30m century. Those of us who finished between 7h and 8h were made to feel as though we held up everyone's day.
I should have said that my ride time required 8 hours of start-to-finished time and seven hours, fifteen minutes of on-the-saddle time. The event provided 10 hours to complete the 200k, if you left at 6:30am. Registration opened at 6:00am. We left at 7:30am after driving almost 2 hours to get to the event. We needed to complete in 9 hours.

They were closing the SAG stations and sweeping the route just behind us.

I agree that that's not much time. Our 100 mile time was 5 hours and 30 minutes of saddle time, about 6 hours elapesed time. We passed two groups of tri-athletes on TT bikes and I'm sure they didn't do the whole 200K. That's a very fast pace and if we had had any issues, we would not have completed.
