Certain downhills I let it all hang out, while others I am VERY cautious about... not quite riding the brakes (pumping) but keeping it under tight control. The difference is mostly the condition of the road surface. And the width of the path and how many and what kinds of folks are on it. Seems a sensible approach to me.
