Ah yeah, that could be an issue, I have the security backpack style (flipside 300). I suppose it depends on how far you ride and how much equip you take for what's comfortable.

You might be able to suspend a platform inside a milkcrate or similar, using a lot of tensioned bungie cords, to provide some shock absorption. Just be sure to strap it in tightly. Personally I'd plan on trying to make the equipment survive in the case of a fall, as I think the regular vibration over most roads is not much worse than a car.
