Miyata 1000 cantilever brake replacement

I posted last month asking if all cantis were the same fit. Well I got lots of good info and went with Tektro CR720s. They fit like a glove on the rear but(as some mentioned) did not quite fit on the front. I had a spare set of Kool-Stop salmon thinlines but could not get them square even with the thinnest washer(3mm) setup. I have to say that illwafer, AEO and cycle mavern warned of possible fitting issues. So I cleaned up and put back on the old ones. They work but are nearing their end.
Options:
I think I can replace with Shimano Altus CT91 Front Cantilever Brake(cheap enough) and did fit illwavers '82 Miyata 610

OR is it possible to replace the 'spring' inside the old cantis. Looking at the cantis I gotta think this is the part that needs replacing...No????

AEO: thinlines don't work, at least w/ mine
