Tubular tires are the ones that you glue onto rim. There is a tube sewn into what basically looks like a sausage. Clincher tires are the ones that yes, use a tube but "hook" onto the rim and are held in place by friction/air pressure. Almost all bikes out there use clincher tires. Tubeless tires work similarly to your car, in that the tire hooks directly onto the rim to create an air-tight seal but without the use of a tube.
