is the season over for me? (NYC)

...and everyone else who works until ~630 or so?

the past two nights i've rushed home from work and been on my bike at about 630. i can make it to central park by about 645, and it's just starting to get dark. usually i can get 2 laps around central park in and make it home in time for dinner. i go to the park because it's usually the safest and closest place for a good ride (i live on the upper east side, so the west side greenway is too far)

but both nights i've had to leave the park early. it gets dark, and there are a million runners/walkers in the middle of the street, walking into the driving lanes, running backwards in traffic, and forcing me into the road (cars are permitted on the east side at night). i had multiple close calls, despite the fact that i use a very bright front light, and had to just pack it in.

people are always inconsiderate, but this wasn't as much of a problem when i could see people at a great distance.

so do you have any suggestions?
