This thread is making me feel much better about the bike i just bought off craigslist 2 weeks ago without checking any history on it. I think I lucked out...

1. sellers e-mail was ***schoolcop@***.com
2. Had to get "Off duty" before he could call me... "duty" sounded official, and we exchanged numbers, so I had SOME contact info.
3. He gave me his business card when I met him... yup, officer Alan from Spring Police Dept.
4. Had typed up a "bill of sale". Nothing notarized or anything, just a sheet listing value, date, serial #, description, etc., and negating any repurcussions for injury from the bike and it had his signiture.

The last part I guess is what some of us should produce or ask for when buying/selling
