Disks do brake better in the wet. But not THAT much better than rim brakes with proper rain pads like Koolstop Salmons. Discs are a nice upgrade if they're good ones, but probably shouldn't be decisive. (Regrettably most LBS are too lazy and stupid to explain stuff like this to customers.)
