Timing chain ring inside or outside?

Looking at FSA Gossamer crankset they have a 42T chainring installed on the inside of the crank spider.
In order to make the chain line work with an standard Ultegra triple crankset on the front I believe that I will need to install a 42T chainring on the outside of the spider. I see 42T chainrings made by FSA and Salsa that seem to made for installation on the inner side. Would I be able to flip over this chain ring and install it on the outer side od the Ultegra crank?
