The ride is rougher due to the higher spoke tension, the weight of the rims (especially on low end low spoke wheels) tends to be higher to increase durability and that is the worst place to add weight. They simply aren't as strong as a higher spoke count wheel. If you want a good inexpensive, durable wheel you should have 32 spokes or more on a wheel.
