Road Rage Ramming ?
"Driver with kids in car in road rage ramming"
What in the world is a Road Rage Ramming? Oh dear me, You mean someone is Intentionally crashing his car into my car or Bike?
Well, there's a First Time for everything. This is the First Time I have ever heard the term "Road Rage Ramming".
Let's get on to the article, you must click the linky-link:
Driver with kids in car in road rage ramming | Ipswich Queensland Times
The Judge said:
"[he]....deliberately rammed his car into another vehicle."
"It's a serious matter to be using your vehicle as a weapon. It can cause great damage not only to property but to life and limb."
It's ABOUT TIME!!!
You know, it wouldn't be a bad idea if Judges, in *this* country , which I love, would once in a while use some Harsh Language.
Next, I'm waiting for a Judge to use the term "Aggravated Vehicular Homicide" , as opposed to the ordinary , everyday kind of Vehicular Homicide.
Kudos to Magistrate Virginia Sturgess.

Thank goodness the incident in question has nothing to do with cyclists.

She may have used harsh language, but the penalty didn't sound very severe: 120 hours of community service and restitution for the actual vehicle damage. But maybe she was lenient since the person had reportedly already lost his job as a result of this incident.

I am trying to remember, when, if ever, a Judge (or Magistrate) in this country (USA) has ever said, acknowledged, or even hinted , that the motorist hit the bicycle intentionally?
It sound sounds to me like a precedent setting case. Does it seem that way to any of you?

It was a jury trial, but that was the basis of the prosecution and verdict in the case of the LA doctor who passed the cyclists and deliberately swerved in front of them and hit his brakes.

Thus one found themselves meeting the locals, as it were.
On the whole most people there are decent, but I came across some real strange characters in my travels out that way.

I would have thought that just knowing any stranger in public is carrying a firearm would be deterrent from doing anything like this. Something like the MAD during the '80s arms race.

Sweet, as he drove suspects in an unmarked prisoner-transport van near Central Avenue and Lincoln Street in downtown Phoenix, reportedly pulled out a *** on Armando Ruiz, who was driving a van full of Catholic missionaries on their way to church.

That's assuming everyone is calm and rational and clear-headed and non-suicidal. More often than not, murders stem from emotional responses.

Unless some clumsy lout spills petrol on his arm whilst smoking, then you might see a firearm in public.

Well, if you believe no one (motorist) ever rammed his car into a bicycle Intentionally, then it's just a heads-up; theoretically speaking , a motorist could ram his car into your bicycle...
There have been too many instances where cars have plowed into bicycles, in broad daylight, with no blind curve in the road, on a wide enough-to-share road, with No cars coming the other way, and with No low hanging branches or other vegetation that could have blocked the line-of-sight ; for me to believe that no driver ever hit the Bicycle deliberately.
Maybe I meant to imply, without stating explicitly, that I wish more Judges would 1) revoke licenses, 2) impound cars, 3) put the driver in jail and 4) use some harsh language, even if it's just a warning ...
It might sound harsh, or it might sound too lenient, but maybe the driver should get a mandatory 6 months in jail for killing anyone. Even if it's an accident.

I could make up a lot of theoretical situations with a hazard to bicyclists, bit in the real world they don't happen. After all, a safe may fall off a roof, and injure a person on a bike. So do I need to start a new thread to discuss that?

The Mandevile Canyon incident is a good example...
Maybe we should talk about Buzzing. When a motorist is Buzzing a Bicycle to see how close he can come , without actually hitting the Bicycle... Don't these drivers sometimes hit the Bicycle?
Specifically though, I started this thread to applaud the Magistrate , who said : "It's a serious matter to be using your vehicle as a weapon. It can cause great damage not only to property but to life and limb."
I have not heard many Judges use that kind of verbiage before, and I am saying it is a Good Precedent.

Guilty.
I have seen motorists hitting cyclists because they don't give a $h!*
NOTE: I call right-hooking a cyclist "hitting them" even though technically the cyclist hits the motor vehicle. Unless it's a tractor trailer and the cyclist ends up under the rear wheels during a right hook.
