Where I live I'm free to ride thru if I chose. The beef is the people who live where it is banned. The rationale is to vote with your consumer dollars if you don't like their policy. Continuing giving them your money when you have a beef with their policy is not an incentive for them to change. It's not an issue for me in this case, but I do vote with my money when I don't agree with a business policy.

The granola munchers are already boycotting fast food joints...personally I'm a grilled steak and seafood guy. If they open up a grilled steak and seafood place with a drive-thru in my area the state law says my bike is a vehicle and I'm the driver and I have the same rights and responsibilities as a driver of a car. If the place doesn't agree, then I spend my money elsewhere.

People will blame the business for letting "vulnerable" cyclists into the drive-thru. Chances are the driver is some working class loser so lawyers will almost definitely go after the business.

Meanwhile, the cyclists who so arrogantly demanded "equal rights" to use the drive-thru will remain silent about the entire issue and pretended this was all news to them.

A year later, the business is either shut down or spends tens of thousands erecting safety barriers that inconveniences drivers but no cyclist is going to use it because of the aforementioned accident.
You seem to have very vivid dreams (or maybe they are nightmares).

As soon as I walked thru the door the manager and two others declared, you can't bring the bike inside - leave it on the sidewalk.
"Unattended and unlocked?"
the repsonse was again, "you can't bring it inside.."

I complained to corporate via their website.

a regional manager contacted me by phone. We discussed the issue. With the lure of a free meal I was asked to try again using the rail beside the drive thru side entrance as a place to lock up.
About a week later I returned. It worked, awkwardly; the bike was clearly in the way of entry/egress through that door. One of the store employees took photos of my bike with his cell phone.
I sent a follow-up email on my experience to the regional manager. Corporate followed up via a survey.

We'll see if anything happens - I doubt it.
Amazing that the management let you lock up your bike to a railing, and partially blocking an exit in the process. Without their permission, I'm very confident that the business management would have harassed you into finding another place to park and hopefully lock you bicycle.

Easy way to hold up the place and get away fast.

Think about the OBVIOUS next time.

One of the main cycling rest stops here is a McDonalds/AMPM. Every weekend there are bikes lined up outside. They have free water, kind of clean restrooms and friendly staff.

If your local places treat bikers good, then support them 100%. My suggestion to boycott is meant for people who are frustrated at particular places that have policies that don't accommodate them on their bicycles. It sounds like yours is bike friendly and customer focused...they've earned your business with good service.

No need to order food to be able to hold the place up. Carrying the bag of food might slow the thief down.

Drive-thru also has a window they can close to cut off the thief and an easier route to run from the thief than the indoor counter does.

You seemed to miss the OBVIOUS.

That I'd park and go in?

It's faster than the drive thru and you don't suck exhaust when they sit there idling.

If it's THAT late I can cross the street and nuke a burrito or get a sandwich at the gas station.

So your statements, even when in the same post, are functionally disconnected. Not a very effective method of putting a point across.

Read for context, please.

For one thing, we've had a few holdups at the drive-thru around here so they aren't happy to serve you there. And you're right about them not being connected, because you are trying to connect things which aren't connected.

Your island may vary, I'm in Oregon.

Sorry you cannot write clearly, you put the two in the same post which connects them. End of story and your time wasting.

Then again, somebody driving a car can choose between the two, the gas station, or the fast food restaurant using the drive up window, but a cyclist's choice is just limited to the gas station,....... further contributing to an autocentric landscape.

I've been rejected twice from using drive thru on my bike. It's a safety issue for them.

Rejected in Indiana and Missouri.

And someone like me is supposed to know this in advance, if I were to ever have the opportunity to come to Utah? I guess in my case, I'd just get a warning or something. Personally, I think it's a bit discriminatory. Here in my home town, I have gone through the drive through and no one has complained. The only complaint I'm aware of has nothing to do with cyclists. A couple of City patch crew workers went to pick up lunch, for everyone, myself included (was working for a contractor to the City) and some old geezer with no life complained about it.

The gas station closes down sometime after midnight-2am if it's slow, but there is an all night diner across from it and it you can handle not getting fryer foods at night, you're still fine.

In a town of 10,000 people (if some get lost trying to find the highway exit) carcentric is not much of an issue at 1 am and the real bar traffic is in the next county.

The two regional hospitals are more enthusiastic about thinking we're going to have 50,000 plus in ten years, and I don't know what is being placed in the Zig-Zag paper there.

Totally different experience for us in Flagstaff, AZ!
Had a long ride from the edge of the Grand Canyon to Flagstaff, AZ. A horrendous storm got us soaking wet and filthy from passing trucks throwing sheets of dirty water on us.
Got to the Village Inn Restaurant at the northern edge of town and were going to leave our tandem bike outside. Greeter/waitress saw us and said: you two and your tandem come inside and get dry! Park the tandem in the lobby and we've got a free piece of pie for you.
Happy riders!

I like diners and cafes that allow you to stop and not live from a paper bag. Folks that slow down and take the time to enjoy reading the newspaper and be with other people, whether you talk to them or not.

I'm glad you found friends on the journey.

I can cook just fine. It's only a choice. When you live next to an interstate, one gas station on the other side of town isn't a factor.

Look up Ontario, Oregon and find I-84, it's a sea of stuff nearby.

You do seem to have problems actually focusing on the subject of the threads you post in.

No, I don't think so. The entire east side from the interchange to the Idaho border is a sea of fast food, motels, a strip mall, Walmart, Home Depot and a truck stop.

Nothing is ever so important that it can't be done any number of ways.

More for me, and I'd rather sit down or go in and take it with me.

You haven't seen the lines at our McDonalds lately...apparently nobody in town reads Yahoo comments.

Besides that, from your ID I'd assume you can drive though the drive-thru and when there are 9 cars waiting I think you could have a chance of leaving IN a bag instead of just WITH one.
