Taking cycling activism one step too far. A small Rant.

"Cyclist" is a strange word with specific uses. I saw a Pan Am games headline that referred to a "mountain cyclist" which seemed weird like "track biker" would be. And when I'm commuting, I'm a commuter, not so much a cyclist or a motorist or transit user.

Once a person gets out of his car, he is a pedestrian. If a person just getting out of his car suddenly gets struck and killed by a passing car, would everybody who attends his funeral be pedestrian activists?

To me a headline saying "Cyclist struck by motorist" tells me someone on a bike was hit by someone in a car. Yes the headline could accurately state "Swimmer struck by helicopter pilot" if the guy on the bike swam and the car driver could fly a helicopter but this is a confusing way of reporting a car hit a bike at an intersection.

I don't see what the big deal about identifying the people in the collision. How about motor vehicle strikes bicycle. Occupant of bicycle killed.
