Today's Rant Brought To You By Tourism!
Now that it's warm out, the very middle of the Brooklyn Bridge Bike lane is apparently THE place to:
1) Take a roll of pictures of your friend/family member.
2) Push your baby in a stroller head on into oncoming bike traffic.
3) Point at buildings uptown.
4) Gaze wistfully up the East River.
What's worse is that they seem to be immune to the bell, as using it does nothing. I know tourism is great for the economy of NYC (heaven knows we need it) but c'mon people! There are giant yellow bicycles painted every 50 feet! It's even worse if they're NY natives. Does this drive anyone else absolutely insane?

Beach trails on weekends are pure hell, especially if they have campsites.
If you want to ride along the beach, its best to do it before 9am

Santa Barbara is a tourist town, too, and they're starting to get thick.
So far that means that the MUP is not a good idea, especially on Friday afternoon. The other day I took the road that is only about 5 feet away from the MUP and saw two bicyclists get mad at and flip off tourists over on the MUP. That is so stupid. Just change your route until the tourists thin out again.
'Course, you can't really do that if you have to use a bridge, but still... Tourists are a fact of life, so don't sweat it. Just handle it.

Beach bike lanes are indeed awful, I used to ride the one that went from newport beach up to seal beach. But, early-early in the morning, at night, and in crummy/cold weather you can get it all to yourself, you just have to choose your times.
