Statistics, anecdotes about danger of double parking?

Does anyone know where I can find statistics and stories on the dangers to peds and cyclists from double parking?

Many people in my neighborhood double park, and when I tried to explain the dangers of this to a parents' group many members became angry, insisting that they "need" to double park and that police should overlook it, and that this doesn't pose a significant danger to peds, cyclists, or those waiting for the ambulance stuck behind their unoccupied car.

Any resources? I googled but haven't found anything specific...

People who double park are inconsiderate selfish jerks, so are immune to talk about the public good. Talk to the police and municipal authorities about increasing their revenue through double parking fines.

Double parking and triple parking is very annoying especially here in NYC. I have never seen anyone get a ticket for it though. The police themselves are frequent double parkers and bike lane parkers. Good luck trying to convince a driver that they shouldn't do it. Writing to a council member is probably the best option.

If as police say the only point of critical mass is to disrupt traffic then every day is critical mass for motorists.

Maybe key cars that are doing this? A little overboard, but it will get their attention when they come back and see a nice line down the side of their vehicle...

how can people be so stupid! In england no one ever double parks, iv never seen it. Although many 2 lane roads become 1 lane due to people parking on both sides of the curb and that really slows down traffic.

Brake fluid, people! Write your initials.... or someone else's "Osama bin laden wuz hea" lol.

Actually in most of the US double parking rare to nonexistant. I think I've seen it once.

I honestly can't remember any instances where someone double parked.

I see double parking frequently in the northeast and it is a major problem for bicyclists.

Of course they could borrow from CM and say "we are the traffic." And the argument goes round.......

Double parking is very common in NYC. On my commute I usually encounter around 5 double parkers a day. It's almost entirely during one stretch though. I don't know what it is about that area, but it's dangerous having to constantly merge with traffic.

I don't think they'd even take notice in NYC....
