Slow Down GPS
I think this is a neat idea.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQQTRTeCe2I
It's a GPS app for iOS / Android that automatically switches to a kid's voice for instructions when you're driving in vicinity of a school / day care / playground etc. Basically anywhere you're likely to have (more) children in traffic. It's developed by one of the largest insurance companies in the Nordic region (If Insurance). The app covers the Nordic countries and contains all known locations. They have a crowdsourcing website, where you can anonymously suggest a place to be added in the system. Contributions are not automatically accepted, they screen the suggestions before adding them to the service.
I'm posting this in A&S because some of us use GPS instructions to ride to new places. Also, some of the kids out there are riding bikes. I know I would appreciate the subtle notification of the increased risk, especially if I were riding or driving through an unfamiliar neighbourhood.

How would a cyclist be "subtly notified" of this alleged increased risk? Do cyclists really constantly listen to audio GPS navigation instructions while riding?

I guess conjunctions and qualifiers are among your many weaknesses?
Yes, some of us use turn by turn GPS, oddly enough while driving, while riding, and even *gasp* while walking. (A sentence with a conjunction and an Oxford or Harvard comma. Ooh, a sentence with two conjunctions.)

On the human factors nerd side:
Intriguing work.
On the mapping nerd side:
The intersection of delivering an audio navigation while passing through an awareness zone might be near zero.
On the east coast v west coast nerd side:
TomTom rolled out a new feature on one of their updates to identify places of worship while you passed by. A bug made that feature the default. Cultural insensitivity made it a particular "church bell" sound.
Obviously it was beta tested in the Bay Area rather than the Hub the Universe, since the bong - bong bong - bong - bong --- bong never would have gone unnoticed while passing through New England town centers.

What about a GPS that changes to a porn star voice when you go past a strip club? The possibilities are endless,

That is a rather pointless/useless feature. People are, I assume, fairly particular about what churches they are interested in and their interest tends to occur at particular times (for example, once a week is fairly typical).
It's disturbing that anybody would think this was a good idea.
Hopefully, there was an option to turn it off.

It would easy to have an announcement independent of turn instructions when you entered the zone. Sort of what is already done for red-light cameras.

We are exotic dancers, not strippers, and as one I take offense to the suggestion that we are involved with pornography simply because we have the talent to separate fools from their money simply by moving our bodies. Shame on you!

That would make a bit more sense.
If people are driving around at night/etc, these sorts of annoucements are going to be usless noise.

Not sure if meant serious or tongue in cheek but either way absolutely the best PC shaming rant ever.
