Haha! I saw zero motorists obeying the rules so far this week. Today is Day 1. Can't wait to observe their behavior on the way home and the rest of the week.

Very little human maliciousness actually surprises me anymore, but Wow is this ever cruel.

Dunno about the Columbus, Ohio, version of the Doo Dah Parade, but the original Pasadena, CA, Doo Dah Parade isi known for its farcical attitude. Someone would need to ask the owner/driver of the Columbus vehicle displaying the sign and crashed bicycle for his intent. It may have been intended as an ironic jab at thoughtless drivers. Who knows. That sort of humor tends to misfire in the court of public opinion.

His sign is pretty clear to his intent.

Somehow the vast majority of both groups manage to live in relative peace...but damn it...there's a war on!

Day 2. Zero turn signals observed (except for the geezer who never turned). Zero stop at right turn on red. Zero stop at stop signs. Plenty of speeding.

No one was driving or parking in the bike lane though...woohoo!

Are you blaming the OP for the motorist actions and hostility?

I'm blaming people for paranoia and false dichotomies when it's silly and not needed.

Most motorists don't give a rat's ass about cyclists, other than the occasional minute or two of annoyance before passing one. Most sane, adult cyclists understand that drivers are people trying to live their lives, not cagers hell bent on killing them.

Yes - it's a stupid float. News flash...the world is full of stupid people. The "they're out to get us, we have to post everything that shows we're at war" mentality in this forum is childish and unproductive.

So someone post about an actual event and you declare him full of paranoia.

Tolerance , it helps both groups .

ever hear the adage: "there's many a true word spoken in jest"? seems like the driver is just contributing to making America hate again

I have used the "war" comparison a few times here. I never meant "war" in the sense that motorists are out there actively trying to harm us. I use the term to promote the notion that many cyclists who leave home without a care in the world never make it back home. Perhaps if they had acted more like people were actually trying to kill them a few more would still be with us.

I don't feel like any motorist is out to get me, or no more than one in a million maybe. But the semantics are irrelevant if you get "blown up" by a drunk or texting motorist. My friends who act like they are at war survive some crazy stuff, while others who are JRA (Just Riding Along) with their heads in the clouds enjoying their bike ride are the ones getting hosed.

I am not talking about not being careful and prepared...I am talking about the dramatic "I'm in a struggle for the future of mankind with these evil, baby killing, auto drive maniacs!" posts. There are ^ 300 million people sharing this country and some of them say and do stupid things. It's a numbers game - because we have access to so many people with the net, it's rather easy to find 100 other lunatics who agree with any point and reinforce the lunacy as legitimate to one another. After all, 100 other people think so too!!!

If breaking traffic laws is grounds for scot-free murder, every single car driver on the planet is fair game.

Dunno; whenever I go for a midnight roll through the park, on the way back it seems I'm always barely seeing the same ninja college kids (half the time, only spotting them because they were too lazy to chip off the pedal reflectors when they removed everything else that wasn't dark colored from the bikes) randomly weaving back from the bar down some pretty dangerous streets, (mainly dangerous because of the other drunks leaving the same bar, and taking the residential feeder because it's less patrolled than the main roads) yet it was an adult roadie with reflectives and a blinkie riding FRAP on a very low traffic rural road who got hit a couple weeks ago.

The float could have been a great safety ad if the wording had been different. i.e. "Blow a stop sign and this could be you!"

I know a lot of drivers would like to see bicyclist off the roads entirely due to the actions of a few bicyclists those drivers encounter. By the same token there are a number of bicyclist and drivers who'd like to see more drivers off theroad too because of the actions of a number of those drivers.

can't say anything positive about the sentiment expressed. But I'm a firm believer in free speech and will gladly accept nonsense like this as part of the price.

Organized parade. The permit holders have a right to limit the speech inside the parade.

If the guy wants his free speech, he is free to park his truck on his front lawn with his message.
