Street parking and large vehicles (SUVs)

Here in New Orleans, parking on the street is more the norm than the exception, and as more and more people drive SUVs (and it's epidemic down here), visibility of oncoming traffic at intersections is becoming severely restricted. Not only are these things bigger, and taller, but they also tend to tint the glass, blocking any visibility. It's not just an issue for cyclists, but any vehicle pulling into an intersection needs to be able to see oncoming traffic. You just can't do that anymore without sticking your nose into an intersection!

Of course, nobody is going to do anything about it, but this is just one example of how our streets are becoming more and more dangerous.

Good point. It's a bit of a vicious cycle -- as more SUVs began to clog the road, more drivers wanted them for the higher vantage point, and so on. Cyclists had a line of sight advantage when the world was all passenger cars, but the big SUVs are just too tall to see over.
