Don't know what led up to this but I'd be really scared.

So, we get the obligatory fake apology.
Sorry, you can't unring a bell. While I can accept that you had a bad day and flew off the handle, the choice of words and insults wasn't accidental.
In vino veritas. Losing ones temper is like drinking, and what comes out reflects true underlying feelings. I, for one welcome these kinds of events because they strip the veneer and now we know what people like this bigoted, loudmouth, horses ass think when they smile and shine people off.

I am not accusing, suggesting, or implying the cyclist in the video did anything wrong in any way, shape, or form.
I believe the cyclist in the video is guilty of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as FBinNY suggested, when surfer dude happened to come to the end of his fuse. I only used it as a generic representation of an extreme encounter. Clear enough?
The "victim blaming" is entirely a figment of your imaginations.
All I'm doing is admitting I'm personally capable of failures in judgment, or character as a cyclist, and that I'm mindful of it, because I don't want to become one of those people we all know. "That Guy"* who constantly complains about problems that are mostly of their own making.
*Just to be perfectly clear, "That Guy" Is entirely generic, and has nothing to do with the cyclist in the video.

Second thing I saw was the You Tube logo and good camera angles. The whole place is an actors' studio.

No, you are both 100% wrong.

I was commenting on this post, nothing more nothing less.
Life is so much easier here in the Northeast.
We get mad, we just toss some insults back and forth, maybe mixed with a gesture or two and, of course, references to mothers, then go our separate ways. 10-20 seconds and done.
Who has the time or patience for a long drawn out tirade?

Had that happened to me I'd have been scared but also confident that I could get myself out of it one way or another without serious injury. After that it would only solidify my resolve to ride the road. Say no to bullies.

Unfortunately people who get involved in such encounters on a regular basis always think it's everyone else who's at fault.

Sadly, many of the bullies never mentally matured past the 8th grade, like surfer dude. These aged bullies see cyclist as the geek kid, so they often go after the perceived weak kid until a cyclist stands up to them.

The geek kid in 8th grade is correct that it is always the bully kids fault. It does not make a difference how many times one bully beats him up or if many bullies beat him up, it is always the bullies fault.

None of the follow on news stories indicate that... He did publicly apologize through CBS news, when they confronted him.... sort of shoe on the other foot, eh?
Newport Beach Police Department was supposedly investigating... but I didn't find any reports of follow-up. Apparently the PD did tweet this:

The only case in which I sat as a juror was an assault and weapons misconduct case. The guy was guilty of assault (I forget which degree, probably a lower one) because he fit this definition:
An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. It is both a crime and a tort and, therefore, may result in either criminal and/or civil liability. (in my case it was a criminal offense, I believe a high degree misdemeanor.).
I hope the cyclist presses charges; that guy made a real threat and, in my opinion, an insincere apology.

This article presents the attitude that some surfers also carry over on our roads towards cyclist.
A 'fort' built by accused Lunada Bay surf bullies has been demolished ? will it end their localism? - LA Times
I have been confronted with it both in California and Hawaii.

In CA, all beaches are public up to the mean high tide mark.
This is NOT the case all over the US though. In WA, a landowner on the beach owns the ocean out to historic low tide mark. I understand it is somewhat similar in some of the Northeastern seaboard states like Massachusetts. Florida too allows ownership of beaches. Thus California is somewhat unique.
Of course, none of this justifies "Surfer Boy's" attitude. Where he really fails is that cyclists have rights to the road, motorists are granted permission to drive on the road... Surfer Boy is so far off the mark it is ludicrous.

The mentally ill guy giving me trouble in my earlier post was half Hawaiian, but his anger was mostly the illness. He was raised right by a white WWII army veteran grandfather and Japanese grandmother. His, get them pregnant and run, father gave him his Hawaiian genes. With him gone, no such problems for me the last several years.
