I'd never use a gopro, way too big, too Fred. Unless you want to fork out for the Hero 5 session of course. The Ghost-S is a great deal for the money.

I use a GoPro, mounted on my helmet. I commute only a few miles so about once a week I clear the memory (easy) and charge it up (easy). I'm using the GoPro for deterrent as much as evidence.
When driving I've been especially cautious around bikers with GoPros on their helmets so figure that's a good plan when I'm the one on the bicycle.

I wouldn't discount the potential deterrence value. I always ride with a small headlight on my helmet, about the size of a Bic lighter. Folks often mistake it for a camera and ask if I'm recording them. Surprises me because it's not that noticeable, less than half the size of the Ion Speed Pro that I do occasionally mount on my helmet.
That said, I don't wear the camera on my helmet to deter anyone from doing something stupid. I wear it to record my rides. Most of the stupid stuff I see drivers doing wouldn't be deterred by a camera. They're too busy doing stupid stuff to notice a camera. There are cameras everywhere. Doesn't seem to have deterred stupid criminals from doing stupid stuff.
