Fat Tire Tour
Advocate bikes and beer!
Brews, bikes featured in Fat Tire Tour
Make no mistake about it. The Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee is a not a grueling mountain bike race.
Yes, many of the 150 or so participants will be riding mountain bikes, but their water bottles just as likely may be filled with beer as Gatorade.
The event, which begins and ends at Wolski's Tavern on the east side, starts promptly at 10:30 a.m. June 25. When it ends depends on the whims of the riders.
Billed as a "25-mile crawl through the underbelly of Milwaukee," the ride will use a combination of bike baths and streets. It will feature lunch at Conejito's Place, a tour of Sprecher Brewery and a ride up and down "the double-helix parking ramp" circular structure just south of Wisconsin Ave.
While lots of bike enthusiasts will participate, "it's not an athletic contest," said organizer Phil Van Valkenberg.
The event costs $30, which includes a shirt and prizes. Call (715) 634-0001.

We need more beer-bike events! There's an active sport in the US for a drinking run, I can't remember what they call it.

Milwaukee is definetly beer central..someone have a Sprecher for me at the Gasthaus!
The beer drinking events are called harriers and run by local harriers club, I think. Started by British expats in India.

At least my sense of sarcasm was not wasted this time---unlike the participants of the ride

Heck, even a church Festival here is not complete without beer. I had a friend up from Georgia and he just had to call his buddy back home and tell him he was drinking beer at the church, on Sunday no less. We call it the drinking for Jesus tour.
