    Cold Set Frustrations

I "cold set" an old road frame using the 2x4 method. I went from 126 spacing down to 110 to fit a 3 speed hub. Now I am finding that the wheel is not centered properly when using the rear brake bolt as a reference. In the pics the wheel is properly centered between the chainstays, but clearly not between the seat stays. How should I remedy this problem? What steps do I need to take to measure and correct?

First of all, is the wheel correctly dished? If not, then correct that before you do anything else. If the rim is properly centered on the axle, the you may have brought the right side in too far and the left not enough. You'll need to spread the right side back out a bit and the left in some more.

Since this is the Advocacy & Safety area, are you "advocating" "cold set" or are you against it?
