(Cheap) bike stem design
To put this in perspective, I'm looking at a cheap stem design (quill-type with a wedge) that has a standard 6 sided hex head bolt to secure the wedge. The company that produces this bike recalled the stem and replaced it with basically the same design, only the bolt is now a recessed allen type.
Anyone have any opinions on the design differences? (i.e. what are the advantages of the allen bolt)

Maybe less risk of injury on the recessed allen head.

You can get more torque on a hex head making it less prone to slipping.
