UPDATE: 48 cyclists were arrested at the latest New York City Critical Mass on August 26. According to reports on New York Indymedia, people were arrested for "parading without a permit" and the police even arrested bicyclists who were obeying all traffic laws.

Yes, arrests are not warranted. Police should ticket those cyclists who violate the traffic laws, not arrest people for being on a bicycle where there are others doing the same thing.
I'd like to see CM leaders advocate in favor of ticketing lawless cyclists as an alternative to mass arrests. An effective argument against mass arrests requires pointing out the prudent course of action for the police.
