Hey running amber is likely not legal. However you can make a light of any color by getting yourself a lee filter swatch set and using whatever filter in your own light. The filters in the swatch set are only 1x2 inches, but that is big enough to do my serfas ultra bright. Yes they even have blue.

go to the literature requst and ask for a filter swatch and price list. Add "Studios" to your name and bam youv'e got one for free in about a week.

Lightman makes them:
https://www.awdirect.com/finditem.cfm?itemid=19569
Filtering would not be effective with LED's as they don't produce full-spectrum light.
Legality is a state-by-state thing. They may be legal on the front but not on the rear.

There is also the question of where the light is mounted. According to the State Patrol in my state (Washington), there is no prohibition that they could find regarding attaching lights to one's helmet, backpack or body, rather than physically attached to the bike itself.
They also implied that steady amber lights were OK, which makes sense since they're used as daytime running lights, parking lights and clearance-marker lights on all manner of roadgoing vehicles already. They said not to use amber flashing lights on the bike, though. That would be specific to the state of Washington, but you can see the idea... a steady amber light is quite normal for use on vehicles.
By the way, if you can find a Cateye TL-LD170-F, they've got a clear lens with three amber LEDs. There's also a TL-LD120II variant with four amber LEDs, check Cateye.com for a pic of that one. That Lightman one looks cool too

1.) Amber: Very worthless. Not very striking at night.
2.) Red: Not a lot better as it really knocks down the power of the light with this lens on.
3.) Clear: BAM! THis baby is bright. It is like having a very hi-powered camera flashing off the back of your bike.

Another place to find the amber led blinkies is in the Xsports shop at the Kittery Trading Post, Kittery Maine (207-439-2700). I don't believe they have mail order, as such, but I'm pretty sure they take special orders.
The light is actually a two light set, one red, one amber. I don't recall the brand name or catch the price.

Before the wheel chair I did ride bikes I had a Centurion Ironman for quite a while but traded it in on a Trek 2000, their first internally lugged bonded aluminum frame.I loved this bike until 1989 which just over a year of riding it. I'm a Disabled Veteran US Army 1969 - 1983 and became permanently disabled after surgery in the fall of 1989. I had plenty of injuries from the Army, both knees (Surgery 12 times 4 on the right and 8 on the left leaving a screw and pins in the left) both ankles that I now have pins, Trauma head injury leaving me severe migraines, left shoulder dislocated and 40 years later had surgery, which was my last surgery because of complications of recovering, left wrist and lower back. I also suffer from Depression and PDTS. Although VA did give me 100% disability, came out to my house and redid both bathrooms for me, laid in laminated floor throughout 90% of the house, puts ramps in the front and the back doors. Which is all well and good, but then my VA Doctor told me you cannot and will not ever work again, you cannot even answer a telephone voluntarily or for work. Can I still shoot my guns? Sure as long as you can withstand the pain. That four letter word "pain" no one knows more than myself after 30 minutes I had to stop. But he said go home and enjoy your life, gee thanks, what life? I love to read books mostly on History of our presidents, CIA, FBI, NSA, and Intelligence, work on my computer mostly research and my guns

Welcome to Bike Forums. Before posting, please check the date of the thread. It is unlikely that the OP is still looking for an amber light after 7 years.

I was about to comment on this thread when I noticed your post. So I looked at the date of the OP's post. I had a good laugh.

Here's a pretty good option, if somebody really does want an amber light after seven years.

So long as you have at least one red tail light there should not be an issue with using amber lights or reflectors. Amber flashers are a common and well recognized signal for slow moving / stopped vehicles, and U.S. mail trucks use them in all 50 states. There's also nothing wrong with amber turn signals, hazard flashers, and reflectors on the back of road vehicles. Take for example the 2004 Honda Accord which used amber hazard/turn signals on the back and the 1990's era Ford Escort which has a large amber reflector across the trunk lid or rear bumper as factory equipment.

Pretty much. Even with the laws in some places no one really seems to care about anyone driving with amber strobes. So long as you're not doing something stupid. I used to commute on a old security bike. Kept the amber strobes on for good visibility. Passed police a lot, no one cared. I even see whackers and rentacops us them on the road
Ham radio operators especially. Plus a bike isn't a motor vehicle and unlike california a lot of places don't specify bicycle lighting.
I use one of these https://www.policebikestore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=pbs&Product_Code=c3s-mini-pursuit now in an amber/green combo. No issues, green even more receptive to human eye.

I'm not sure about the legal issues, but that is more or less what I concluded. Flashing amber gets confused with turn signals. Steady amber for mostly side and forward facing clearance lights.
I snagged a few of them to mount forward facing on my trailers as "clearance lights". Especially for riding after dark on bike trails where I may be wider than other riders and trail users might otherwise expect.
These are what I got. Very cheap.
