Petition

I'm going to get on my soapbox for a minute......................anyone still here?

I don't know how many of you have been paying attention to Koffee's signature, but there is a very important piece of information that is being overlooked.

That is this: Petition

It will all make sense when you read this, but we can't let this stand, we can't let our brotherhood be run down by this crap. This is LONG overdue.........so pass it to your friends, and you LBS, and even people on the street..........lets DO SOMETHING about this!

Thank you

I'm not going to argue that cell phones are a problem, but I don't think a ban will solve the real problem which is motorists being distracted.

You can kill a cyclist by being distracted with adjusting your stereo, changing a CD, yelling at the kids in the back seat, lighting a cigarette, reaching for your purse, talking to a passenger... I do not think it's feasible to ban everything that can cause driver distraction. I think it would be far more appropriate to require everybody to take a defensive driver's class every four years like my employer (State of California) does. I took it even though I bike 95% of the time and as a result I no longer read incoming text messages while I'm driving, and I ask my passenger to dial my phone for me, or I wait to stop at a red light.

Education, not legislation.

My $0.02.

No thanks. I don't need to take a stupid class every 4 years. I am not an idiot driver so I should not have to be punished.

In reality, motorists should be required to retest for their license every 2 years. The license to operate a deadly vehicle should not be handed out so easily. Most other licensed priveliges require occasional retesting, not automatic renewals.

A 4 hour classroom discussion every 4 years is not unreasonable for the continued privelidge of operating a motor vehicle that is more than capable of killing people. Maybe you're not an "idiot motorist" but I'll bet you see idiot motorists on a daily basis, and those people should be sent to class. Unfortunately, if you make the class optional for people who mark the "Non-Idiot" box, then nobody would go.
