1) Going around a blind curve heading into the sun - didn't see that patch of gravel. I went one way, bicycle went the other. Knees contacted concrete storm drain. Straightened seat and bars, rode home and picked gravel out of hands. Note to self - never ride without gloves.
2) On a lovely cool December day, went under an underpass with a slight curve. At that nice muddy patch, once again, I went one way, bicycle went the other. Helmet had close encounter with pavement and concrete retaining wall. Finished my ride, after washing mud and gravel off my knees and gloves (I DO learn from my mistakes!). Promptly went and bought new helmet to replace cracked one.
Main cause - rider inattention and inadequate forethought!

Not a bike crash, but...

I know how this guy feels (OK, well, pretty close); most of us have had days this!

What if the hokey-pokey is what it's all about?

My worst crash happened in May when I was doing a cat 4/5 road race. With about 10 miles left in the 45 mile race the two guys in front of me got tangled up and slamed on their brakes, and lucky me got to go along for the ride. I wish I could say that I could remember it, but since we were going 35mph, I was nocked out on impact. On the up side I got to miss school for over a week. Crashing is a part of racing, and fortunatly I was able to learn an important lesson, always leave yourself a way out.
