Yeah, I think I read that somewhere.

But seriously, wasn't there just two threads like this in the last month or so where it seemed a pretty obvious troll involved.

I like my theory better.
This episode just aired on Spike about an hour and a half ago. I can't recall a time I was more outraged by the behavior of an "offender" and the police officer on this show.

What was "amazing" about the driver's response was the seeming sincerity of it. Cops are supposed to be able to tell when someone is lying and she fooled everyone at first.

The cops didn't give a crap about the kid - interrogating HIM more than the woman first of all. And, didn't even bother to get a status on his condition before he was transported to the hospital.

All of this legal talk about what really happened completely ignores the fact that there was a witness- the person driving right behind her. The guy who saw the kid fly ten feet in the air! A VERY credible witness. Also, the circular dent in the woman's windshield is NOT from hitting a tree. It's from someone's head or body hitting the glass. And it was from the outside on the passenger side.

That kid deserved way more than $5,000. He very well could have died, she was definitely trying to leave him for dead, and he looked so scared when he stumbled out of the woods. She was also changing her story, and even in the beginning she seemed quite shaky and not just in a language kind of way either. This episode REALLY pissed me off! So, at least I was able to find an active forum on it - thanks for listening to my rant. :-)

BTW, I have a friend who got a $300k settlement from a horrific DUI accident that required her to go through several surgeries. Guess what their first offer was, two years prior? $5,000.

.
It's impossible to discuss accident settlements as outsiders. Settlements are compensation for injuries, and not what might have been. If this victim miraculously escaped without injury, then he'd get very little other than the bills for medical exams and/or treatment, which are often paid directly to the provider.

$5,000 might have been outrageously low if he was injured, or a minor windfall if he was OK and the bike was cheap. I didn't see the episode so I have no idea about how the responders handled the event.
