I am an idiot
Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to the official "Admonish Chris L severely for his stupidity" thread. This is about my ride home from work this afternoon in light rain. I attempted to go through a gap that I knew full-well I had no chance of getting through. Of course, inevitably I realised that I had no chance of getting through it and had to slam on the brakes really hard. This, of course, led to a skid which was admittedly made considerably worse by an oil-slick, but if I'd had any intelligence at all I would have anticipated it's presence before trying to pull of this stupid move (after all, we haven't had rain sufficient to wash any of these away for almost two years now). I am not using it as an excuse. Somehow I managed to unclip from the pedals, jump off them and land on my feet before the bike actually fell in what must surely be the greatest fluke of all-time. Both self and bike escaped unhurt, which is a problem because I really deserve to be penalised for such blatant idiocy. As a consequence you are all free to admonish or abuse me in this thread as much as you like. The whole situation would have been avoided with a little patience (or worse still, a little common sense). It is quite obvious that if brains were made of elastic I wouldn't have enough to go around a duck's ankles. To anyone who has ever read any opinions or advice from me on this forum, I apologise unreservedly for wasting your time with what has now been proven to be nothing but useless and distracting spam. |
you done well to survive unscathed, just to teach your self a lesson, commute to work by car for a week, that,s a fitting punishment :D :D

We've all been there, and I fully expect to be there again ... soon. :D

The problem is . . . most people try to shoot the gap in their SUV. The result being that folks get hurt or killed--and usually not the one at fault.
The only one you put at risk, Chris, was yourself and you have a right to risk your own neck. I just get pissed at all those a-holes that insist on risking mine for me. Dave |

That sounded really cool man. Good save! Hey just consider it mountain bike training, heck you have to save your a$$ like that regularly out on nasty single tracks.....

Poor Chris!
Can't you find anyone to agree with you, boyfriend? |

Originally posted by KnightWhoSaysNi A duck's ankle is a challenge for elastic - the huge webbed foot and very thin leg require the elastic to stretch a lot while still retaining enough tension to stay around the ankle. It requires more mental agility than wrapping an elephant's ankle, for example. Originally posted by A.troll Can't you find anyone to agree with you, boyfriend? |
Landed on your feet just like a cat. I had similar luck one day. I had just put semi slick tires on my MTB and was turning from the street into my alley. I was going a little too fast so I took a wide turn and let the front wheel run off into the grass on the edge of the alley. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem because the knobbies would grip it. With the slicks it took my front wheel down. I jumped straight out of the toe clips, hit the ground on my feet, and was able to keep my balance by running it out but I almost smacked into the neighbor's fence.
