wanted to share

SO I was driving my car the other day and I almost hit a guy riding a bike (note I didn't call him a biker) HE was rideing on the wrong side of the road in the wrong direction in the middle of the lane. SO I would have hit him head on. WE were both coming around a cruve. I could tell by the look on his face he blamed me for this. HE pulled his bike onto the ditch you could also tell the bumpie ground was hurting.

He may very well have thought you were at fault do to how his parents teaching him to ride that way.

Hobartlemagne 07-04-06 07:52 AM

dont feel bad- there was no collision
it would have been "rider error" anyway

TheKillerPenguin 07-04-06 10:25 AM

Perhaps if you had half a clue penquin, you would not have almost been hit. A quarter a clue would have done it.

Where the hell is that can of Troll-Be-Gone?

DataJunkie 07-05-06 07:18 AM

It's not my fault that you don't know the rules of the road. Don't take it out on me.

That's funny, I was going to say that about you towards the rest of us.....

Statistics of Bicycle Fatalities.

5.1% The bicyclist exited a driveway in front of an on-coming vehicle.
4.3% The bicyclist turned left in front of a passing vehicle.
3.9% The motorist was overtaking the bicyclist, cause of the accident unclear.
2.7% The bicyclist was struck while traveling on the wrong (left) side of the road.
1.4% The bicyclist, on the wrong side, turned right in front of a vehicle.

"The fourth kind of collision is caused by the cyclist traveling on the wrong side of the road (against traffic). This is both illegal and highly dangerous. See Wrong Way Cycling for this discussion."

"Finally, the legal position of the person riding on the wrong side is very different from the person riding on the right side. Assuming an auto accident caused by a swerving car, the cyclist on the right side is innocent until proven guilty while the person on the wrong side is automatically guilty. If the cyclist on the right side gets struck, the motorist has to pay the cyclist's damages and hospital bills unless there was some clear fault on the part of the cyclist. It the cyclist on the wrong side gets hit, the cyclist ends up paying any damages to the motor vehicle, unless the motorist was even more negligent and maybe not then.

The simple truth is that as a cyclist you have all the rights and responsibilities of someone driving a vehicle. Check your state traffic laws; a quick source is Bicycle Laws in the United States."

Its illegal anyway you look at it. You were wrong. Not only is it wrong, its one of the highest rated forms of bicycle deaths. Notice all but number 3 can clearly be avoided by the cyclist in most circumstances.

Dude, don't make up statistics to try and convice me i'm wrong. It makes you look foolish.

Uhh.. okay? Its your life. I may do a lot of stupid things with mine, but I'm not going to play chicken with cars (not considering its highly illegal in Oklahoma, where I live). If your were casually riding around town thats one thing, but when you start getting hills and curves, its lunacy to try stuff like that.

But its your life. Its kind of sad you dont appreciate it more.

TheKillerPenguin 07-05-06 09:43 AM

I do appreciate it, which is why I always ride against traffic. I don't understand why someone like you who lurks in the advocacy forum would be so infamiliar with traffic laws, and would stoop so low as to make up statistics just to prove yourself right. For shame.

sgtsmile 07-05-06 11:05 AM

Please note, everyone, Penguin's siggy.

This is not an argument, this is a contradiction.

If we said the sky was blue, he would say it is yellow just to be an ass......

sad though that he is posing as an authority on a forum where people actually come for help

DataJunkie 07-05-06 12:16 PM

I was wondering when someone else would catch on.

First is it suppse to be the law in all 50 states to ride against trafic?

Then read this
http://www.ohiobike.org/bicycle-law-digest.html
Wich is taaken from this
http://www.dot.state.oh.us/bike/

will need to look harder in the secound link to find ohios state law regarding direction of travel for bikes than in the first one.

Its not a matter of catching on, but just stating a point.

Not catching on would be arguing for pages with the guy. ;)

Hes one of those dangerous sorts. I can see some new cyclists who doesnt know the rules/laws regarding wrong way cycling. They come search see his comments on how its against the law to cycle with the flow or some other non sense leave go get killed or hit or ticketed

DataJunkie 07-05-06 01:50 PM

Be that as it may, I'm sure penguin is laughing his arse off. Being that everytime he mentions this everyone goes off the deep end. :p
It's not very hard getting everyone's goat in A&S.
