Ha ha! I think I got a catcall.
I was riding home tonight. It was dark and there were few cars on the road. As I turned left at a light, I heard to guys behind me whistle and shout boisterously. I quite enjoyed it, let me tell you. It was far better than the honking and yelling I endured earlier in the trip. It could have been even better if I had stopped to show that I am a man. I bet they would have been totally embarrassed.

I've found that for yelling, screaming or shouting if the car is passing from behind it's usually guys, if going the other direction it's usually chicks.

One time I was paced for about 6 lo-o-o-ong miles by a car full of women I will politely describe as 'working class' on a ride in Richmond. The bawdy comments spewing forth would put any construction worker to shame. Man, did I feel like a piece of meat.
On the positive side, I'm dating two of them now (just kidding)

Trying riding around Provincetown in lycra. Not that there's anything wrong with it...

Maybe they knew very well you are a man and were impugning your masculinity. Or they might have been gay, not there's anything wrong with that.

My wife tattled on a co-worker of mine, who revealed at a party that my bicycle commuting attire was appreciated by a number of female employees in my office, herself included. Now I blush when I pass her on the way to the shower room. Outside of that, I don't think I've ever heard a comment one way or another by any female over age 21 or sober. As for young girls, they'll howl over anything unusual.

One day I was running through my neighborhood home from the bus stop wearing a backpack and a bandana under my ball cap when a passing car slowed in front of me and stopped. When I got alongside their open window, the two young men took one look at my moustache and got totally grossed out.
I guess it's sorta like taking a drink of a milk, and finding out it's buttermilk. I'm not a bad-looking man, but I probably wouldn't look very good as a woman...

I got "flashed" once, while passing the Jackson Homestead on Washington st., in Newton MA. Very pretty girl leans out of the passenger of a camaro, yells something, and lifts her t-shirt. I think she was Italian.

I was followed for a few blocks by a guy who misunderstood the spandex leotard and long hair. When he pulled even with me he got a shock and split.
Oh, the leotard. I hadn't done my bike laundry and had thrown on some of my dance gear when I wanted to ride.

Did this happen in Amherst?
Probably just a carload of ZooMassers, too blotted to distinguish between the sexes.
